One Nation: SF Theater Festival

Posted in about on July 4, 2009 by crisishopkins

At the end of July we performed alongside 130 other theater companies at the San Francisco Theater Festival. We played a tight 30 minute set of improvisational comedy. Here’s a clip from the show – the audience cast Sam & Anth as spies at a Reno blackjack table…

“Upstairs in MOAD was the San Francisco improvisation group Crisis Hopkins. What made Crisis Hopkins stand out among other improv troupes at the festival was their effortless group dynamic-they were able to keep the gags going, work the audience for laughs and make it all look easy. In true improv style, the show culminated in jumping around the stage to the grooves of shamanistic music and mercilessly (albeit hilariously) mocking the group the Flight of the Conchords.” – Daily Californian

Avila Covers the Climate

Posted in about on March 3, 2009 by crisishopkins

The Guardian laid out the early history and current revival of the Climate Theater in a major cover story this week. All of us – except for the carpetbaggers Anthony and Jamie – have had some relationship with the Climate apart from our work with Crisis Hopkins. We’re happy to call it our current home base, and thrilled that it has someone like Jessica Heidt to put in the energy to book and program the space. She’s providing remarkable stewardship to a unique local treasure, and we’re happy for her, Joegh Bullock, and the rest of the Climate crew. Congrats!

Sacramento Showdown II

Posted in about on February 3, 2009 by crisishopkins

We’re returning to Sacramento to defend our title in the  Improv Showdown – a head to head longform improv battle – at The Sacramento Comedy Spot on Saturday February 28th.

Two long form improv teams enter the stage- only one leaves. Each show down will feature two long form improv teams that will each have 15 minutes to perform. After both teams perform the audience will pick the winner. The winning team will continue to perform at the Showdown until they are beat by another team.

We won the Showdown on our first visit in December and this is our first chance to return to this grueling battle royale. So if you’re in the Sacto area, we’ll need your support. Sacramento improvisers are vicious!
